School Rules

Supplies

Every student must have pens, paper, pencils, and a 3-ring binder with dividers. Students are to come to class with his or her own supplies. If they need supplies, they are to ask the teacher to borrow an item.  Teachers will readily share supplies upon receiving an item belonging to the student until the end of the period. Students frequently needing to borrow supplies will sit close to the teacher.

 

Binder Check - Every 2 weeks. Students with excellently organized binders will receive a reward.

 

Cell Phones

Cell phones are not to be used for personal use during class time.

Cell phones may be used in class ONLY for Teacher-directed instruction.

Non-compliance with this policy:

- 1st non-compliance: The student will give his or her cell phone to be held by the teacher until the end of the period.

- 2nd non-compliance: The student will give his or her cell phone to be held by the teacher until the end of the day

- 3rd non-compliance: The student will give his or her cell phone to be held by the teacher who will give it to the principal. The student, parent, and principal will hold a conference regarding successful use of cell phones at school.

 

Tardies

-  Community Representative collects the absence lists from teachers by 8:30 AM.

-  The Office Manager and/or Community Representative calls home to let parents know their child is not at school.

-  The Office Manager and/or Community Representative creates a list of absences and sends to teachers.

-  If a student from the absence list is present in period 4, the period 4 teacher will hold that student for 10 minutes.

-  Students with excessive tardies and absences will have a conference with the principal and his or her parent/guardian regarding placement at Boyle Heights High School.

 

Dress Code

Students with inappropriate clothing that distracts from the educational purpose of the school will meet with the principal and receive a loaner shirt for the day. Students requiring a loaner shirt frequently will have a conference with the principal and his or her parent/guarding regarding aligning goals with fashion choices.

 

Class Sets of Textbooks

Each book will be numbered and assigned to a specific student. Each student will be responsible for the appearance of his or her book.
